Gloria Linda Mendoza-Paiva, 66, of Hilo died April 11, 2015, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 21, 1948, in Hilo, she was a waitress for the former Mun Chun Lau Restaurant and Bob’s Drive Inn in Hilo and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hilo.
Friends may call at 8 a.m. May 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 10 a.m. prayer service. Burial is at Alae Cemetery (Section K). Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome.
She is survived by sons, Russell (Audra) Paiva of Pepeekeo, Dennis (Lori) Paiva, Anthony Paiva and Derek (Tammy) Paiva, all of Hilo; mother, Gleceria Mendoza of Hilo; sister, Francis Oliphant of Hilo; brothers, Roy (Karen) Mendoza of Las Vegas, Wayne (Stacie) Mendoza of Oahu; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Kadie Harris
Kadie Forbes Harris, 68 of Waimea died April 2, 2015, in San Francisco. Born Jan. 27, 1947, in Schenectady, N.Y., she was an artist and a chef.

Michael “Smokey” Stephen Marquez Schotz, 36, of Kailua-Kona died March 22, 2015, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Oct. 6, 1978, in San Diego, he was a surf instructor and waterman.

Virginia “Ginny” Alvesta LaRocca, 95, of Kailua-Kona died April 18, 2015, at her residence. Born Feb. 13, 1920, in Witchita, Kan., she was a retired business owner.

Shizue Yafuso, 89, of Hilo died April 11, 2015, at her home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired secretary for their family owned Electronics Business.
